Parts and Part Versions
A Windchill part is a logical database representation of a physical item used to build a product. Physical components can include packaging, product manuals, and software as well as electronic and mechanical components.
A part has a name, number, and version. It also includes other descriptive attributes such as default unit of measure, life cycle state, working status, and source. The information stored with part objects is divided into two categories:
Common information that is the same for every part version.
Information that is unique to a specific part version.
The complete definition of a part must include both common and version-specific attributes.
For a complete list and description of standard Windchill part attributes, see Part Attributes.
Windchill administrators can also define their own company-specific part attributes. For more information, see About the Type and Attribute Management Utility.
