Find in Structure
The Find in Structure field is located above the structure pane in the Structure tab of a part information page. Text entered in this field is used to locate objects within a multiple-level part structure. The text is matched against the values for all attributes displayed in the structure pane. Find in structure can be used to find the next or previous matching object, or find all matching objects.
*
An asterisk (*) can be used as a wildcard character to increase the number objects that match the entered text. The following rules apply:
Parts are highlighted that have zero or more characters in place of the wildcard in the text string.
Wildcard characters can be used before, in the middle, and after the search string.
Wildcard characters are assumed before and after the text string when no wildcard characters are explicitly entered.
When wildcard characters are explicitly entered, wildcard characters before and after the string are not assumed.
First, Next, or Previous Match
To find the first, next, or previous matching object within a part structure:
1. Type a text string in the Find in Structure field.
2. Press ENTER or click the find icon. The search string is highlighted in yellow wherever it appears in any attribute value visible in the structure. The object row for the first match starting from the top of the structure is selected.
3. Press ENTER again or click the down arrow next to the Find in Structure field to select the row of the next matching object. Click the up arrow to select the row of the previous matching object.
*
The structure is expanded to reveal the previous or next matching object even though it may be multiple levels deep in the structure. Expansion stops when a matching object is found. Continue searching by clicking the up or down arrow.
The find operation will locate matches to all associated objects displayed in the structure. For example, matches will be found for documents associated to parts.
A message is displayed to the right of the Find in Structure field when the top or bottom of the structure is reached.
*
To more quickly find objects in a large structure, expand the structure to the approximate location of the object, select the object row in the structure where you want the search to start, enter a text string in the Find in Structure field, and click the find icon. The highlighted row will be used as the starting point to find the previous or next matching object.
Click the clear icon to the right of the text entry field to clear all highlighting within the structure and start a new search.
All Matches
To find all matching objects within a part structure:

2. Click the Find all and select icon to the right of the Find in Structure field. The structure is expanded to reveal all rows with matching strings highlighted in yellow. All object rows with matching strings are also selected.
*
Only those branches of the structure having rows matching the entered text string are expanded.
The find operation will locate matches for all associated object types displayed in the structure. For example, matches will be found for documents associated to parts within a part structure.
A message is displayed to the right of the Find all and select icon showing the total number of structure rows containing matches.
*
Use the selected structure rows and the right-click menu to perform operations such as Check Out or Add to Baseline.
Click the clear icon to the right of the text entry field to clear all highlighting within the structure and start a new search.
