Adding PDM Objects to a Project
You can use the Add to Project action to share product and library objects with a project context.
You can also use the clipboard to share content from PDM to a project in the following ways:
You can copy one or more objects in a PDM folder and paste them into a project folder. Pasting PDM objects into a project folder is essentially the same as using the Add to Project action. The only difference is that you are not asked to specify a project and folder location first.
When you select Paste, the Add Objects to a Project window opens displaying the Collect Objects and Set Options table.
If you are adding a PDM document to a project, you can create a new document in the project. This document retains the content and information of the original (similar to a Save As action). The new document can be changed within the project, independent of the original document, and later checked in to PDM as a new object.
The Collect Objects and Set Options table allows you to determine a different share type for each object. Select the checkbox next to a document in the table to enable the copy icon on the table toolbar.
For more information, see Exchanging Data Between Contexts.
1. Perform one of the following actions:
From an object information page, select Actions > Add to > Add to Project.
Select one or more objects in the Folder Contents table and then select Actions > Add to > Add to Project. You can also select Add to Project from the right-click actions menu of an individual object.
Select one or more objects in the Search Results table and click the add to project icon on the table toolbar.
Copy one or more objects from a PDM folder. From the Folder Contents table of a project, select Actions > Paste.
*
You can paste objects from a single copy operation into multiple projects. Objects are retained on the clipboard until they are pasted or you complete an Add to Project action.
The Windchill clipboard does not recognize keyboard shortcuts for copying and pasting. For more information, see About the Windchill Clipboard.
2. From the Add Objects to a Project window, click Find next to the Project Name field to search for the target project.
3. Click Browse next to the Location field to specify a project subfolder in which to add the objects. Otherwise, objects are shared to the main project folder.
*
If you want to share objects to different folder locations, you can specify different folders using the New Location column in the Collect Objects and Set Options table.
4. Use the Collect Objects and Set Options to collect related objects and specify the share types for each object. For detailed information on using this table, see Collect Objects Table for Sharing.
