An Interim Product (IP) is the representation of the breakdown of each assembly into more detailed substructures in order to define the shipbuilding strategy. Windchill loads Layout subtypes when the Shipbuilding Template is installed on the server. FORAN Layout Parts are mapped with Windchill Layout Parts after publishing FORANobjects to Windchill. Windchill Layout Parts are also mapped with FORAN Layout Parts after Windchill Layout objects are published to FORAN.

The term Configuration Item is used to denote the existence of Business Objects. A Configuration Item (Business Object) is a collection of component parts or design solutions. Ideally, there is only one unique Configuration Item Part (Business Object) per ship. This allows a business to manage a configuration of sister ships with a single Configuration Item Master, with different underlying implementations of design solutions based on effectivity. Windchill loads Configuration Item subtypes when the Shipbuilding Template is installed on the server. When Component Parts are published from FORAN to Windchill, depending on the implementation of the Configuration Item, there can be one or more design solution parts per Configuration Item in Windchill.

Design Solutions are the components used or required to implement a Configuration Item (Business Object ) in a ship. Design Solutions may consist of component parts, plate parts, Profile Parts, Special Auxiliary Parts, etc. A Design Solution is a child of Interim Products or Configuration Items. Windchill loads Design Solution subtypes when the Shipbuilding Template is installed on the server. FORAN Component Parts are mapped with Windchill Design Solution Parts after publishing FORAN objects to Windchill.

A Construction Number is a serial identification number given to a boat or ship.
