Windchill Licensing Pathway
Windchill licensing is organized into commercial packages. You are required to order the license packages from the PTC catalog. When you purchase a package, all related serviceable items and their features are properly licensed and assigned to you through license groups and profiles. Users become entitled when added to any of the license groups. Users must be members of one or more license groups. When Administrator user adds an user to a License Group, the feature usage is counted and the user interface actions are allowed or hidden based on the following information.
License profile to which the license group is associated.
License feature that the group represents.
The license ordering process determines which license features are available and how users are assigned access within Windchill. The following diagram outlines the Windchill licensing workflow.
1. Placing the License Order — When you place an order with PTC, the orderable item is a commercial package. A commercial package represents a purchasable offering and contains one or more serviceable items.
2. Commercial Packages and Serviceable Items — Each commercial package includes serviceable items that define the package contents. Serviceable items represent the specific Windchill modules or functional capabilities to which access is provided.
3. Package Contents and License Features — The package contents include Windchill license features. These license features are mapped to one or more license groups in the system.
4. License Profiles and License Groups — License profiles are mapped to license groups out of the box (OOTB). This mapping determines which license features are available to users assigned to a specific license group.
5. User Assignment to License Groups — The administrator assigns users to the appropriate license groups based on the package contents included in the purchased commercial package. This assignment controls the Windchill functionality accessible to each user.
