Moving an Object
The Move action allows you to move:
• All
versions of an object among products and libraries
• View versions of an object within the same product or library
• Selected versions of an object within the same product or library
|
|
The Move action is not available for projects or programs.
|
The following objects can be moved:
• parts
• documents
• CAD documents
• document and note templates
• baselines
• folders, including all folder contents and links
• change objects
You can move an object at any time, but it is best to move it when its latest version is released. This ensures that new versions are assigned a team and life cycle based on the initialization rules set for that context.
To move objects:
1. Initiate the Move action from the right-click actions menu available in most table rows throughout Windchill. You can also use the Actions menu available in the following locations:
◦ The Folder Contents table for product and library contexts
◦ The Search Results table
◦ Information pages for moveable objects
2. From the
Move window, use the
Collect Objects table to collect related objects that you might also want to move. Select the checkboxes next to objects that you want to include or exclude. For more information, see
About the Collector.
3. In the New Location column, set the new location for each object:
a. Click the set location icon

in the row for that object.
The Set Location window opens.
b. Select the context and folder where you want to move the object, and then click OK.
| You can view the contents of the selected folder by clicking Open. |
| You must have the appropriate permissions in both the source and destination folders. |
4. Select one of the following options:
◦ Move all view versions and all versions—Moves all view versions of view managed objects (for example, a part), all versions of versioned objects that are not view managed (for example, a document), and all objects that are not versioned (for example, a baseline or a folder).
Using this option, you can move all objects either within the same context or across different contexts.
Example:
▪ View managed objects—A (Design), B (Design), A (Manufacturing), and B (Manufacturing) are moved.
▪ Versioned objects that are not view managed—A, B, and C are moved.
◦ Move all versions of the displayed view and all versions—Moves all versions of the displayed view of view managed objects (for example, a part), all versions of versioned objects that are not view managed (for example, a document), and all objects that are not versioned (for example, a baseline or a folder).
Using this option, you can move all objects that are not view managed both across and within contexts. By default, view managed objects can be moved only within the same context. To move view managed objects across different contexts, set the property wt.dataops.viewversions.containermove to true.
Example:
▪ View managed objects—When the Design view is displayed, A (Design) and B (Design) are moved, while A (Manufacturing) and B (Manufacturing) are not moved.
▪ Versioned objects that are not view managed—A, B, and C are moved.
◦ Move all versions of the displayed view and the displayed version—Moves all versions of the displayed view of view managed objects (for example, a part), the displayed version of versioned objects that are not view managed (for example, a document), and all objects that are not versioned (for example, a baseline or a folder).
Using this option, you can move all view managed objects and objects that are not view managed within the same context only. To move view managed objects across different contexts, set the property wt.dataops.viewversions.containermove to true.
Example:
▪ View managed objects—When the Design view is displayed, A (Design) and B (Design) are moved, while A (Manufacturing) and B (Manufacturing) are not moved.
▪ Versioned objects that are not view managed—When B is displayed, only B is moved, while A and C are not moved.
◦ Move the displayed version of the displayed view and the displayed version—Moves only the displayed version of view managed objects (for example, a part), the displayed version of versioned objects that are not view managed (for example, a document), and all objects that are not versioned (for example, a baseline or a folder).
Using this option, you can move all objects within the same context.
Example:
▪ View managed objects—When B (Design) is displayed, only B (Design) is moved, while A (Design), A (Manufacturing), and B (Manufacturing) are not moved.
▪ Versioned objects that are not view managed—When B is displayed, only B is moved, while A and C are not moved.
| The default value can be set in the following preference: > > . |
5. Select the Ignore objects in other contexts checkbox if you do not want the associated objects from other contexts included in the move.
6. In the Move window, click OK.
The object has been moved. Although it is now in a new location, its name and number have not changed.
If the Event Console window opens, the move has failed. Click Details in the Event Console window to view details about the conflict. If resolution options are available, they appear in a conflict resolution window, allowing you to ignore conflicting objects and proceed with the move.
