Importing Objects Marked as Locked for Replication into the Workspace
When importing objects from another Windchill server, overwriting items in the target server’s workspace is only possible if those objects are marked as Locked for Replication within that workspace.
For example, consider CAD Object A.1 is present in the workspace on both the source and target servers. If you import CAD Object A.1 from the source server, it only overwrites the version on the target server if it is marked as Locked for Replication.
Objects marked as Locked for Replication in the target server’s workspace can be imported and overwritten using the Windchill Package Import utility with the -o option.
When a CAD object marked as Locked for Replication is imported and overwritten, its file and associated attributes are updated to match the version from the source Windchill server. To reflect these changes locally, you need to refresh the overwritten object in the target server’s workspace by regenerating the Workgroup Manager client cache.
Best Practices
To import and overwrite objects on a workspace in the target server:
Prior to import, ensure that any existing objects marked as Locked for Replication are removed from the workspace.
*
Family Table objects must be removed before import, as they cannot be marked as Locked for Replication and therefore cannot be overwritten.
After importing and overwriting objects marked as Locked for Replication in the target workspace, update the workspace contents using one of the following methods:
Recreate the client cache for either Creo Parametric or Windchill Workgroup Manager.
Automate cache deletion by removing the directory located at \PTC\ProENGINEER\Wildfire\.wf from the Server Management utility.
For more information, see Setting up Automatic Clearing of Cache.
Use Case
Importing and Overwriting CAD Objects in the Target Server Workspace
Suppose the target server’s workspace contains CAD Object A.1.
To import using the overwrite option,
Mark CAD Object A.1 as Locked for Replication in the workspace before initiating the import.
This updates the object in both Commonspace and the workspace.
Import Process
1. Import the content to the target server using the overwrite option.
2. Open the imported CAD Object A.1 in the workspace using Creo or the CAD application registered with the Workgroup Manager.
The workspace displays the current contents.
Updating the Client Cache
To ensure the client cache reflects the overwritten object,
1. Open the Tools > Server Management window in your CAD client.
2. Unregister the Windchill server.
3. Erase the objects in session, if prompted, when the dialog box is displayed.
4. Register the Windchill server again.
5. Re-open the object in Creo, or the registered CAD application with the Workgroup Manager.
The workspace now displays the updated content.
6. Confirm that the embedded browser shows the correct attributes, structure, and out-of-date status of the contents.
When to Recreate the Client Cache
Recreate the client cache for the workspace if the object is up-to-date but any of the following changes occur:
The object is overwritten, and the same object iteration now has different attributes.
The object’s status changes due to additional iterations being imported.
The object’s file is modified.
Non-versioned attributes such as Folder or State are modified.
