Save (NX)
This section describes the Save action available from the File menu in NX. It is assumed that there is a registered server set to primary and a primary active workspace. When there is no registered primary server and primary active workspace, the behavior differs. Save saves the CAD models, and their dependents currently in session, to the local workspace for the active workspace on the primary server.
When NX is connected with Windchill Workgroup Manager, its native Save actions are altered to save files to the Windchill workspace.
In NX, Save includes the following actions:
• Save—Saves the modified parts that are in active window to the Windchill workspace.
• Save Work Part Only—Only saves the modified work part to the Windchill workspace.
• Save As—Saves the current work part under a different name.
|
|
It is a best practice to perform Save As action from Windchill instead of using the NX native Save As, because NX Save As may not retain any association and secondary attachments with the main document.
|
• Save All—Saves all modified parts and top-level assembly parts to the Windchill workspace.
To upload the NX files to the Windchill workspace after a Save operation, set the Upload After Native Save preference to Yes.
For more information on setting client preferences, refer to
Managing Windchill Workgroup Manager Preferences.

|
You can set a preference that determines whether a viewable is generated using defaults, or if you prefer to set options each time you initiate Save. To generate viewables, set the preferencesave_to_ws.content.options to Models and Viewables in the wgmclient.ini file.

When you try to save a CAD object that already exists in Windchill and it is not checked out, performing Save opens a Conflicts window. In the Conflicts window, you can select from the following options:
• Check Out—Check out the CAD object.
• Revise and Check Out—Revise and check out the CAD object.
• Continue—Save the modified object locally without checking it out.
After saving the NX files to the Windchill workspace, you can use the workspace to track in-process data and check the change history.

When a Part Family object is saved, its instances are also saved to the local workspace.
