How to Import Redline Product Data from Excel
You can use the Import from Redline Spreadsheet action to import the following:
• redline parts
• redline product structure or BOM
• redline replacements
The Import from Redline Spreadsheet action launches the Import from Redline Spreadsheet window through which you can import the redline spreadsheet.
The Import from Redline Spreadsheet action is displayed only when you set the > preference to Yes in the Preference Management utility in Windchill.
To select the action, go to one of the following locations:
• The Affected Objects table of a change task—Click the Actions menu and select Import from Redline Spreadsheet.

The action is enabled only when the change task of a change notice includes one or more parts with open redline.

• The BOM Redline structure browser—In the Editing action set of the toolbar, click the Edit menu, and select Import from Redline Spreadsheet.
To import the spreadsheet, follow the steps below:
1. Select one or more parts with an open redline.
2. Select the Import from Redline Spreadsheet action from one of the above locations.
The action launches the Import from Redline Spreadsheet window.
3. Select the Excel file to import using any one of the following methods:
◦ Click Browse to navigate to the file.
◦ Drag-and-drop a file from Windows Explorer into the import window.
◦ Type the path to the file.
4. Under Attributes, the UPDATE REDLINE option is preselected for Import Action and it is the only and default option available in Import Action.
| With the UPDATE REDLINE option, if a redline version of an affected object exists, it is iterated and updated with the values in the spreadsheet on import. |
5. Click Validate Spreadsheet.
or
Click Import to skip the validation process and proceed with the import as described in the last step.
6. If you click Validate Spreadsheet, the detected errors and warnings appear in a table below.
a. Open the Excel file to resolve the errors while the Import from Redline Spreadsheet window remains open.
b. Return to the Import from Redline Spreadsheet window and select the updated Excel file again as described in step 3.
c. Click Validate Spreadsheet again to check whether the issues were resolved.
7. Click Next to proceed to the Preview step.
A list of redline structures to be imported is displayed in the table.
a. Click
Compare to Part Structure to preview the updates.
b. If you approve of the updates, click Finish.
The Import from Redline Spreadsheet window closes.
8. Alternatively, you can skip step 5 or 6 or both, and proceed directly with the import. Click Import to proceed with the import.
The Import from Redline Spreadsheet window closes when the import is initiated.
9. The job is submitted to the queue and the validation runs in the background. Check
Import Job Monitor to confirm that the job succeeds.
