Considerations for Importing Redline Replacements
When you import redline replacements from Microsoft Excel to Windchill PDMLink, consider the following:
You can only import substitute replacements for parent parts in the structure that have checked out open redlines on the change notice.
*
As the parent part is a part with an open redline, a redline usage link is given preference over a usage link which is without an open redline.
The Line Number attribute when available may be used for uniquely identifying the usage link.
Imported redline replacements must reference substitute parts that already exist in Windchill PDMLink.
Organization administrators can set the Part Management > Enable quantity and reference designators for substitute parts preference to define additional attributes (quantity, unit of measure, and reference designator) when defining a substitute.
When the Replace action is used in a redline BOM worksheet and the new part is already defined as a substitute for the original part, the system automatically replaces the substitute part with the new replacement part. This behavior is similar to the Replace with Existing action when a substitute is selected. Adding the same substitute is treated as an update to the existing substitute rather than as a new entry.
For more information on the redline substitutes spreadsheet format, see File Format for Importing Redline Replacements.
