Rules for Using Save to Workspace (SOLIDWORKS)
Consider these rules for saving SOLIDWORKS configurations to the workspace using the Save or Save to Workspace action:
When you first save a generic to the workspace, it creates new objects in the workspace – for the generic model and for each “managed” instance (that is, those configurations where PTC_IS_INSTANCE is set to Yes).
Because SOLIDWORKS does not create individual model files for configurations, instances in Windchill do not have primary content.
When you select Save while you have an active configuration, the system saves the generic model.
For the Default configuration and additional configurations that are created, if the property PTC_IS_INSTANCE does not exist, Windchill Workgroup Manager creates it and sets it to No.
Typically, a Design Table spreadsheet is embedded in the generic model and, therefore, is not saved separately from the generic. If you are using a linked Design Table and want to manage it in Windchill, you must attach the spreadsheet using the Edit Attachments action available from the CAD document information page in the Windchill Workgroup Manager browser.
When the Save to Workspace operation is in progress, you might experience the following:
The CAD application UI is blocked until the native CAD tool action is completed.
CAD actions on the Workspace page remain available.
A progress indicator shows that the action is being performed in the background.
Check the status periodically to identify any errors or failures. Click the Event Management icon to address errors or resolve conflicts.
