Considerations for Importing Redline Product Structures or BOMs
When you import product structures for an open redline from Microsoft Excel to Windchill PDMLink, consider the following:
The changes to the REDLINEBOM sheet type apply only to the redline structures and not to the main branch structure.
When you import changes to a redline product structure or BOM, you do not need to import the entire product structure. Each row in the redline product structure is considered a discrete action. For example, if you want to add one part to an existing redline product structure, simply specify the parent assembly and the row with the existing part to be added.
Imported redline structures must reference parts that already exist in Windchill PDMLink. If a part referenced in the spreadsheet does not exist, import fails.
For a REDLINEBOM sheet type, structure changes are permitted only for parts with an open redline.
Parts at Level 0 must have an open redline.
Structure additions or deletions at Level 1 must reference existing parts both with and without open redlines.
Structure additions or deletions at subsequent levels are only valid under levels without an open redline.
If a component part exists at multiple levels of a redline structure, import from redline spreadsheet must reuse the same child parts for that component part at all levels of the structure. If, in the spreadsheet, the component part does not have the same child parts at all levels, the first occurrence defines the child parts at all levels.
If you import a modified redline product structure, existing product structure links that are not included in the import spreadsheet do not change.
When importing a redline product structure, the quantity, usage unit of measure, and reference designator values must be coordinated for a valid usage. An error may be presented for new or existing usages when invalid combinations are defined.
If you need to modify a quantity within the redline product structure, use the Add action and specify the new quantity. The Delete action removes the part and all its quantities from the product structure, but does not delete the part from Windchill.
When importing a redline product structure, you can add reference designators in the spreadsheet under the Reference Designators column. An error occurs if the number of values in the Reference Designators column exceeds the value mentioned in the Quantity column, when the unit of measure is Each.
When importing a modified redline product structure, existing unnamed occurrences are not affected by the import process when the total number of occurrences does not exceed quantity.
An error occurs if you remove a child part with a particular line number and add another child part with same line number. To avoid this error, remove all child parts using one importable spreadsheet and then add the child parts with the desired line number using another importable spreadsheet.
If you have revised an open redline part within the redline structure to a revision that has no open redline, its correct redline version is added to the structure on import even if the Revision column contains a blank value or any of its existing revisions in the imported spreadsheet.
