The primary objective of MPMLink is to provide a tool that uses engineering information to create and to store processes used to manufacture the product.

In the following figure, you can see the natural evolution of data in MPMLink. It begins with the CAD document structure, which is used to create the initial low-level structure of the eBOM in PDMLink. The eBOM structure is then used to develop the mBOM structure in MPMLink and leads to the definition of the process plans to build that structure. Finally, manufacturing resources are allocated to operations within the process plan.
