Watermarks and Security Labels
Security label settings can be included in watermarks, similar to other object attributes. When publishing an assembly or structure, the security labels associated with the top-level object being published are the security labels included in the watermark. If the security label setting is different on a child part within the structure, that difference is not reflected in the watermark.
Security labels and their settings are stored in property groups. There are three property groups: WindchillEPM, WindchillPart, and WindchillDocument. These property groups are stored in the Structure or PVS file for Creo View, and can be viewed from within Creo View.
The security label properties display in the following format:
<PROPERTY_GROUP>_sl<SECURITY_LABEL_NAME>
where
<PROPERTY_GROUP> is the prefix associated with the property group:
part for the WindchillPart property group
epmdoc for the WindchillEPM property group
doc for the WindchillDocument property group
<SECURITY_LABEL_NAME> is the security label name as it appears in the name attribute of the SecurityLabel or CustomSecurityLabel element in the security labels configuration file.
For example, the security label property for the Export Control security label in the WindchillPart property group displays as follows:
part_slExport_Control
When a standard security label is selected from one of the property groups and included in a watermark, the localized label value displays based on the locale of the server. When a custom security label is selected from one of the property groups and included in a watermark, the external value displays.
Initially, a representation inherits the security labels from the object it is representing, known as the representable object. Use the Edit Security Labels action to update the security labels set on the representation. The properties available for selection on a watermark depend on the representation being viewed, and its representable object.
When the representable object is a part with no associated EPM document:
The WindchillPart security label properties for representations are those of the representable part and are dynamically updated whenever the security labels on the representable part are updated.
If a representation was copied from an EPM document, the WindchillEPM security label properties for the representation are the security labels as they were set at the time the representation was copied to its current location. There is no connection between the representation and the original EPM document.
If a representation was copied from a document, the WindchillDocument security label properties for the representation are the security labels as they were set at the time the representation was copied to its current location. There is no connection between the representation and the original document.
When the representable object is an EPM document with no associated part:
The WindchillEPM security label properties for representations are those of the representable EPM Document and are dynamically updated whenever the security labels on the representable EPM document are updated.
If a representation was copied from a part, the WindchillPart security label properties for the representation are the security labels as they were set at the time the representation was copied to its current location. There is no connection between the representation and the original part.
If a representation was copied from a document, the WindchillDocument security label properties for the representation are the security labels as they were set at the time the representation was copied to its current location. There is no connection between the representation and the original document.
If the representable object is an EPM document with an associated part:
The WindchillPart security label properties for representations are those of the associated part and are dynamically updated whenever the security labels on the associated part are updated.
The WindchillEPM security label properties for representations derived from the EPM document are those of the EPM Document and are dynamically updated whenever the security labels on the derived-from EPM document are updated.
If the representation was copied from a different EPM document, rather than the representable EPM document, then the WindchillEPM security label properties for the representation are the security labels as they were set at the time the representation was copied to its current location. There is no connection between the representation and the EPM document from which it was originally derived.
If a representation was copied from a document, the WindchillDocument security label properties for the representation are the security labels as they were set at the time the representation was copied to its current location. There is no connection between the representation and the original document.
If the representable object is a document:
The WindchillDocument security label properties for representations are those of the representable document and are dynamically updated whenever the security labels on the representable document are updated.
If a representation was copied from a part, the WindchillPart security label properties for the representation are the security labels as they were set at the time the representation was copied to its current location. There is no connection between the representation and the original part.
If a representation was copied from an EPM document, the WindchillEPM security label properties for the representation are the security labels as they were set at the time the representation was copied to its current location. There is no connection between the representation and the original EPM document.
Depending on the wvs.properties configurations at your site, representations can be copied forward when certain actions are performed on the representable object. These actions can include check out of the representable object, copy and pasting the representable object to a new location, revising the representable object, and so on. When a representation is copied forward, it becomes a copy, and the security label properties on the representation behave as described above.
