Considerations for Importing Documents
When you import documents from Microsoft Excel to Windchill PDMLink, consider the following:
• When you import, you can import new documents and modify attribute values of existing documents.
• If you modify existing documents, the documents are iterated.
• If you modify the soft attributes of a document , the soft attribute definitions must exist in Windchill PDMLink, or the import fails.
• An import may also fail if:
◦ Any related documents are checked out and you did not select the
Update Checked Out Objects option on the import window. For more information, see
How to Import Data from Excel.
◦ The column names do not match the Windchill PDMLink attribute names that you want to specify.
• You must include the organization ID for the document.
• To import document classification attributes, each worksheet must contain only documents that belong to the same document type (for example, documents only of agenda type) and classification node. To import classification attributes, the classification structure used in the spreadsheet must exist in Windchill.
• To import subtypes of a document, you must specify the subtype in the Document Type column of the input spreadsheet. You can use additional columns to specify attributes of each subtype.
