Part Configuration Structure Tab
The Structure tab within the part configuration information page contains tools for displaying and editing part configuration structures. The tab is divided into two sections, the actions toolbar, and the part structure panes.
Actions Toolbar
The actions toolbar appears just below the part configuration identity and Actions menu. The actions in the toolbar are divided into sections called action sets.
*
More space for structure information can be made available by collapsing the toolbar. Click the collapse icon on the right and just below the toolbar.
The following table provides an overview of the actions available in each action set in the toolbar:
Action Set
Actions
Clipboard
Includes the Copy action that allows you to copy selected parts from the part configuration structure to the Windchill clipboard. Copied objects can be pasted into other operations as desired.
Viewing
Contains actions that change the information displayed in part configuration structures.
Show/Hide allows you to select related information to display in the part structure. Select one or more parts in the structure pane and click the Show/Hide icon to display the Show/Hide Related Information window. From this window you can select:
Documents
CAD Documents
Replacement Parts
Distribution Targets (with Windchill ESI installed)
Click OK to see the related objects displayed directly beneath the parts in the part structure.
*
The Show/Hide Related Information action is also provided on the right-click menu for a selected part.
The Views icon provides the ability to change the columns displayed in the structure pane. Select a previously defined view from the drop-down list or create a new view using Manage Structure Views. For more information, see Customizing Table Views.
The Display icon provides the ability to change how parts are displayed within the part structure. The following actions are available in the drop-down menu:
Show Occurrences or Hide Occurrences – Click this action to display or hide occurrences. The actions to show or hide depend on the currently display, for example, when occurrences are hidden the action is Show Occurrences. Individual usage occurrences are displayed as a separate row in the part structure pane on the left side of the Structure tab.
*
An individual part usage relationship, with a value of “each” for the unit, may have the number of occurrences equal to the quantity; the number of occurrences may not exceed the quantity.
An individual part usage relationship, with a unit value other than “each”, may have up to a single occurrence; the number of occurrences may not exceed one.
For example, an assembly may include two different parts: “EachPart” and “NonEachPart”. “EachPart” may be used six times in an assembly, where all have a unit value of “each”, but only three of the usages have occurrence-specific information. In the structure, the “EachPart” will show three occurrence rows and one summary row for the remaining three usages marked with the nonoccurrence status indicator . The “NonEachPart” may be used twice in the structure, where both have a unit value other than “each” but only one usage has a single occurrence defined. In the structure, the “NonEachPart” will show one occurrence row and one summary row marked with the nonoccurrence status indicator .
Select All selects and highlights all parts displayed in the structure so that other actions can be performed on the selected parts.
*
Parts that are not expanded and visible in the structure are not selected.
Refresh – Re-displays the part configuration structure showing the base part and the first level child parts.
The Sourcing Contexts menu allows the sourcing context to be changed and display supplier part numbers in place of the original equipment manufacturer numbers. This menu only appears when Windchill Supplier Management is installed.
Add To
Contains actions that add selected parts in the structure to packages or projects.
Add to Package – Adds a selected part plus collected objects to an existing package. For more information, see Adding Content to a Baseline
Add to Project – Adds one or more selected parts plus collected objects to an existing project. For more information, see Using the Add to Project Action.
Tools
Click the Compare icon to compare two part configurations. For more information, see Comparing Part Configurations.
Filter
The Repopulate action updates an existing part configuration with part versions selected by a modified configuration specification filter. For more information, see Repopulating a Part Configuration.
Reports
The Export action provides the ability to export part configuration structure information to your workstation in the file formats contained in the drop-down menu.
Use the following procedure to export part configuration structure information:
1. Expand the part configuration structure to display the branches you wish to be included in the exported file.
*
The exported file will contain only the part configuration structure branches and attribute values that are displayed.
2. Click the export list to file icon and select a file format from the drop-down menu.
3. You will be prompted to open or save the exported file by your browser. The prompt you receive depends on the browser that you use.
*
The name of the exported file is derived from the top part in the part configuration structure.
Part Structure Panes
The area below the toolbar is divided into panes. The left pane displays the part configuration structure. The top node in the structure is the base part .
*
A part configuration structure may use a traceable child part that will allocate a part instance. In this situation the part master icon is displayed.
The part configuration and assembly parts within the part configuration structure are expanded one level at a time using the expansion arrows to the left of each assembly row.
The right pane contains tabs of information about the part that is selected in the part configuration structure pane. The following table describes the tabs and the information they contain:
Tab
Description
Attributes
Displays important attribute information about the part. For more information about the attributes displayed in this tab, see Part Attributes.
Classification
Shows the classification attributes associated to the part. This tab is only available when Windchill PartsLink Classification and Reuse is installed. For more information, see Working with Classification Administration.
