Mass Change Operation—Editing a Part Usage
To edit a part usage from one or more assemblies, use the following procedure:
1. Select the objects you want to modify.
2. Click the appropriate mass change action.
3. Select Edit Part Usage.
4. In the
Current Part Number field, enter the part number of the existing part you want to edit. After typing at least three characters in this field, a list appears with one or more values that match the number. When you select a value from the list, this value is used as the part number. Optionally, you can click the find icon
to open the
Find Part window and search for the part.
5. If you enter a value in the
Current View field, you further constrain the editing operation to part usages in the specified product structure view. Optionally, you can click the find icon
to open the
Find View window and search for the part structure view. If you do not enter a current view, all part usages with the specified current part number will be edited.
6. If you enter a value in the Current Find Number field, you further constrain the edit operation to parts with the specified find number. If you do not enter a value, all parts that match the current part number will be edited.
7. If you enter a value in the Current Line Number field, you further constrain the edit operation to parts with the specified line number. If you do not enter a value, all parts that match the current part number will be edited.
8. The Quantity, Unit, Find Number, and Line Number fields are optional details. You must specify a value for at least one field. For fields that you do not specify a value, the current value remains, if one exists.
9. In the Reference Designator field, enter the reference designators when inserting a part in several parent assemblies.
| When you add reference designator in a mass change operation, and if the number of existing part usage quantity is more than the number of reference designators, the usage quantity is changed to the number of the reference designators, even if the part usage was not edited in the mass change. |
| You can screen for duplicate reference designators assignments within each BOM. |
10. By default, the Automatically check in successfully modified objects. checkbox is selected. Clear the checkbox if you do not want modified objects checked in.
11. Click Next to preview the change. The window displays a message to tell you the action that will take place. The assemblies that will be modified by the edit operation display in the Object List table.
12. Click Finish. The system automatically checks out the assemblies and updates the part usage attributes.
The following fields are available for editing a part usage:
Field Name | Description |
---|
Current Part Number | The number of the part whose usage attributes will be edited. |
Current View | The product structure view in which you want the edit made. |
Current Find Number | A find number is often used to differentiate between instances of a part usage within an assembly. |
Current Line Number | A line number is often used to position instances of a part usage within an assembly. |
Quantity | The quantity of the part on the part usage. For example, a part may be used five times in an assembly. Indicate the number of parts you want. If a blank value is entered, no quantities are changed. |
Unit | The unit of measure used in the part usage. |
Find Number | A find number is often used to differentiate between instances of a part usage within an assembly. |
Line Number | A line number is often used to position instances of a part usage within an assembly. |
Associated CAD Structure Action | For the implementation context: Select one of the following options from the drop-down menu: • Build and Publish Later—CAD assemblies can be built and published later. • Build and Publish Now—CAD assemblies are built and published immediately. • Do Not Build—Product structure updates are applied but assemblies are not built. • Exclude from Mass Change—All assemblies built from CAD are not processed. | This action will only be displayed if at least one of the selected objects is a part build from CAD. |
For the planning context: • Do Not Build—Product structure updates are applied but assemblies are not built. | For the Mass Change of BOM redline, the inserted part occurrences are added with a Build Status of Excluded for parts with associated CAD data when using the Exclude option |
| This action is disabled for the mass change BOM redline operation. |
|
Comments | A text field allowing you to enter comments that will appear in the Iteration History table to document this edit. |
| If some of the selected objects are not eligible, they are ignored, but the processing of the valid objects continues. If you enter a number that does not correspond to a valid part or you do not have access to it, you receive an error message and are allowed to correct the number and resubmit the operation. If you enter an invalid quantity or unit, you receive an error message and are allowed to correct the attribute and resubmit the operation. |
