Check Out (SOLIDWORKS)
To modify a CAD document, which exists in the Windchill workspace, you must check out the document. Check Out reserves the CAD document in the commonspace for that particular user, preventing other users from checking-in changes for the same CAD document. It creates a working copy of the document in your workspace, which holds your changes until you check in the document.
You can access the Check Out command either in the Windchill Workgroup Manager client or in SOLIDWORKS.
To access Check Out in SOLIDWORKS, click PTC Windchill > Check Out.
*
Check Out initiated from SOLIDWORKS operates on the CAD document that is active in SOLIDWORKS. Therefore, unlike initiating the command from the Workspace, no selection is needed.
The Check Out command (available on the PTC Windchill Ribbon menu, through the right-click action in the SOLIDWORKS Feature Tree, or from the PTC Windchill Status tab) checks out the generic and the active instance when the Independently Modify Instances preference is set to Yes and the active instance is managed.
To access Check Out in the client, select the one or more objects in Windchill using the check boxes and then click File > Check Out. Alternatively, you can right-click the object and on the context menu, click Check Out, or click in the Toolbar or in the Actions column.
*
Windchill supports the checking out of a non-latest iterations of a CAD document, and the subsequent checking in of that iteration as the latest iteration. This allows you to revert to an earlier version of a design. For more information on checking out non-latest iterations, see Checking Out Non-latest Objects.
