Source Languages
Source languages are used for authoring and translation. In both cases, the Source Languages enumeration provides the allowable language list. The entries in the Source Languages enumeration are inherited from the Available Languages enumeration. Initially, all Source Languages enumeration entries are in the Removed from selection list table. Populate the list of allowable languages for your system by moving the entries for those languages to the Available for selection table of the enumeration. At least one entry must be made available for selection in the Source Languages enumeration. It is important to populate the Source Languages enumeration as part of the initial translation management setup and configuration.
Business objects supporting translated text require an authoring language. When creating new objects of these types, the languages available for selection as the Authoring Language attribute are derived from the Source Languages enumeration. For an existing object created before authoring languages were introduced, the authoring language is determined by the authoring language property. For more information, see Specifying Authoring Language.
Windchill Service Information Manager Translation Management, requires a list of source languages in its configuration and configuration of translation preferences. The source languages are specified in a translation preference that is derived from the Source Languages enumeration. The companion Source Languages translation preference specifies a list of allowable source languages for translation package creation. Translation preferences are configured in Translation Support (Utilities > Business Administration > Preference Management). If the Source Languages enumeration is later changed, check the Source Languages translation preference to ensure that the preference values are still valid. See Translation Preferences for more information.
