Document Information Page
Windchill documents are used to share and manage files (such as Microsoft Office documents), links, and external content not electronically accessible. For more information, see Documents in Windchill.
Access the document information page by clicking the information icon next to a document when it appears in a table.
At the top of the information page next to the Actions menu, the following information appears:
Document name, number, and version.
Object status glyphs (if applicable).
Document type (for example, Document or Reference Document). The options available are specific to your site.
A Go to Latest link appears if a more recent version of the document is available. For example, if you are on the information page for document version A.1 and the latest version of the document is B.2, the link would take you to version B.2. For more information, see Object Versions.
From the information page, you can perform actions on a document, as well as view the document attributes and any related information. For an overview of information page functionality, see About Information Pages and Customizing Information Page Tabs.
Actions
Information pages contain a list of applicable actions in the Actions menu, found on the left side of the page next to the object name.
*
The availability of these actions depends on the status of the object as well as your access to it. For more information, see Object Status and Understanding Data Accessibility.
In addition to common actions, the following actions are available from the document Actions menu:
Action
Description
Save or open the document primary content without editing it. This action is available only if the primary content source is a local file.
How the file is downloaded depends on your preference settings.
If the primary content source is a URL link, this action redirects you to the target website.
Check the document back into Windchill. This action is available only to the user to whom the document is currently checked out.
The checkin operation saves the modifications you have made to the document in the system. Checking in an object also iterates the version according to the versioning scheme set at your site. For example, from A.1 to A.2.
Reserve the document for editing, preventing other users from making modifications.
Reserve the document and download its primary content file for editing.
The file download location is specified in your preference settings.
Reserve the document so that you can change the primary content, edit attributes, and add or change attachments.
*
Whether or not this action appears is controlled by the Create and Edit > Check Out and Edit Action preference in the Preference Management utility.
Undo a checkout without saving any changes or creating a new iteration. This releases your hold on the document and makes it available for others to check out.
If the document is already checked out, select this action to change the primary content, edit attributes, and add or change attachments for the document.
Upload a new primary content file without editing any other document attributes. The document is automatically checked out and back in. This action is available only when the document is checked in.
*
Whether or not this action appears is controlled by the Create and Edit > Replace Content Action preference in the Preference Management utility.
Tabs and Tables
You can customize the tabs that appear on each object information page to display the information most useful to you.
For more information, see Personalizing Tables.
*
Administrators might have modified the default tabs that are viewable to you. Additional tabs might appear depending on the solutions deployed at your site.
Tab

If a thumbnail has been generated for the document, a visualization thumbnail is selectable. For more information, see About Visualization.
Classification attributes will appear if Windchill Partslink is installed and classification binding attributes are set on the object type.
In addition to common attributes, the following might appear:
Status—Indicates whether the document is checked in or checked out. If the document is checked out, the name of the user to whom the document is checked out appears. If the document is checked out to you, the following links appear:

Click the view information icon to view more specific information about the primary content, such as the file size or full URL path.
Click the document format icon to view or download the primary content. The icon that appears depends on the primary content format. For example, a Microsoft Word document icon appears when the file is in .doc or .docx format. If the primary content is a URL link, click the link icon to navigate to the link location.
*
To open the URL in a new tab or to save a link without downloading the content, press CTRL and right-click the link to access your browser menu. For more tips, see Personalizing Tables.
