Installation Overview and Requirements
Regardless of whether you are performing a new installation or upgrading an existing installation, PTC suggests you review the following summary before proceeding. Installing or upgrading the Info*Engine SAP adapter takes several steps and requires strong knowledge of the current SAP installation at your site.
1. Prepare yourself and your site for the installation or upgrade.
Carefully read the sections detailing the information required before you can begin installing or upgrading all adapter software. The installation or upgrade may require special access permissions.
2. Mount the Info*Engine SAP adapter CD-ROM.
The information must be retrieved from CD-ROM. Be sure you know the appropriate mount point at your site for this information. For a list of the CD-ROM directory structure see the appendix
Directory Structures.
3. Copy the necessary files to the adapter home directory.
4. Install the adapter.
It is not necessary to have access to the root account of the machine on which the adapter will be installed.
5. Configure the adapter and resolve error messages, if any, that appear during startup.
6. Test the installation of the adapter and resolve any error messages that appear.
Language Support and Multi-byte Data
In addition to English, German, French, Brazilian Portuguese and Italian, the SAP adapter also supports multi-byte data in Traditional and Simplified Chinese, Korean, and Japanese.
Before You Begin Installing the SAP Adapter
Certain items must be obtained or considered before beginning the installation and configuration of the SAP adapter.
• Any user can install the SAP adapter. Root access is not required.
• Obtain the username and password of the trusted user account on the SAP server host.
You must have this information in order to install and configure portions of the SAP adapter. If you do not have this information readily available, check with your local system administrator.
All of the installation and configuration steps detailed in the following topics assume a working knowledge of the following:
• The SAP installation at your site
• The setup configuration of your local network
• Basic knowledge of your operating system
• Basic system administration skills
If you are unsure of any of the instructions detailed in the installation and configuration steps, do not proceed without first contacting your local SAP administrator and your local Network or System Administrator for assistance. Your local SAP administrator can provide you with valuable information related to the setup and configuration of SAP and how that information affects the installation of the SAP adapter.
