Automatically Create Standard Control Characteristics When the CAD Model Is Checked in With the Annotations Designated As Control Characteristics
Use the Automatically Create Standard Control Characteristics preference to automatically create standard control characteristics in Windchill from Creo, NX, and CATIA V5.
When you set the value of this preference to Yes, the standard control characteristics are automatically created when the CAD model is checked in with the annotations designated as control characteristics. When set to No, the default, the standard control characteristics must be manually created in Windchill.
*
Out of the box, the system creates a new standard control characteristic every time a new iteration of a part that has a new annotation is checked-in in Windchill. You can customize this behavior to use already existing standard control characteristics whenever a new annotation is published in Windchill.
Key Points
Consider the following points when you set the value of the Automatically Create Standard Control Characteristics preference to Yes:
When you designate an annotation in CAD (Creo, NX, CATIA V5) as a control characteristic, the same annotation is created as a standard control characteristic for the part. The name of the standard control characteristic is same as the name of the annotation mentioned in the CAD (Creo, NX, CATIA V5).
To Designate an annotation in CAD, refer to:
CATIA V5 — CATIA V5
Creo — ‘About Designating Annotations as Control Characteristics’ in Creo help center.
By default, the Severity value is set to Key.
The context of the standard control characteristic is same as the one mentioned in the Organizational Information Requirements (OIR).
When checking in the CAD part, you must have access to create the standard control characteristic. Otherwise, the system creates only the part but not the standard control characteristic.
The system creates the standard control characteristic only if the associated part is checked in.
The number of standard control characteristics that are created by the system are equivalent to the number of annotations that are designated in CAD (Creo, NX, CATIA V5).
Consider that the Windchill system has created a standard control characteristic for an annotation designated in CAD (Creo, NX, CATIA V5). If you remove the annotation in Creo, the standard control characteristic continues to exist in the Windchill system.
If you do not initially designate an annotation and then designate it later in CAD (Creo, NX, CATIA V5), the system must create the new standard control characteristic for the newly designated annotation.
The IBA attribute value related to a model item is displayed on standard control characteristic when it is automatically created.
The automatic creation of standard control characteristics works for a resource object if you have checked it in with CAD from Workspace.
