Translation Support for Windchill MPMLink
Windchill MPMLink enables you to translate names and other custom attributes of String type in multiple languages. For more information on setting up translation support, see
Supporting Business Object Text Translation.
Currently, the following objects are supported for translation.
• Resource — Name attribute.
• Standard Control Characteristics (SCC) — Any custom attribute of String type.
|
• Translation support is available only if the Enable Dictionary Translation Display preference is set to Yes. For more information, see Translated Text Preference.
|
As a prerequisite, you must first run the loader to translate the name of the part or resource. Once you have the translated name, you can use the translated name or the original name to search for parts and resources. To know more about the loader, refer
Setting Up Translation.
Key Points
• Out of the box, the Authoring Language and Translation Name attributes are available for the following resources: Process Material, Skill, Tooling, Work Center, Plant, and Resource Group.
• The Translation Name attribute associated with the Name attribute for the Process Material, Skill, Tooling, Work Center, Plant, and Resource Group resources and parts are included in the following attribute layouts:
◦ MAPSB Part Attribute
◦ PPB Part Attribute
◦ SAPSB Part Attribute
◦ Resource — for Plant and Resource Group
▪ Create layout
▪ MRB Attribute tab
▪ Plant Attributes on MAPSB
▪ Information page layout for primary attributes
▪ More Attributes
◦ Resource — for Process Material, Skill, Tooling, Work Center
▪ Process material structure attributes
|
The Translation Name attribute is visible in the layouts only if the value of the > preference is set to Yes.
|
• You can search for a part or resource using the Name attribute value. Use the translated name text to search for a part or resource in the BOM Transformer. Consider the following example:
A part with the name
Engine is present in the BOM Transformer. You change the language of the Windchill browser to
ja. Here,
ja means the Japanese language. The Japanese translation of the name
Engine is
エンジン. In the BOM Transformer, enter
エンジン in the Find in Structure field to find the part. You can also enter a partial or complete text in the
Search field of the
Quick Search dialog box to find the part. For more information, see
Find in Structure and
Using Quick Search in BOM Transformer.
|
エンジン is the Japanese dictionary meaning of the English word Engine. The エンジン text is loaded in Windchill using the loader.
|
• When you change the language of the Windchill browser to a language other than the original language, you can still search for a part in the Windchill browser using the part name in the original language. For example, a part named Engine is present in the BOM Transformer. The language of the Windchill browser is changed from en (English) to ja (Japanese). Now, even though, the language of the Windchill browser is Japanese, you can use the English name of the part, Engine, to search for the part.
