Updating Equivalent Links in the Downstream Structure and Resolving Discrepancies
Parts that are not linked to the most recent iterations of their downstream equivalent parts have an out-of-date icon displayed next to them. To update a part that is linked to an iteration of another part which is not the most recent iteration, perform the following steps:
1. Right-click the upstream part that is linked to an out-of-date downstream part and select Equivalent Parts on Other Side . The out-of-date downstream parts are highlighted.
*
Equivalent parts are displayed on the Latest non-linked iteration of downstream equivalent parts matching the filter subtab of the Equivalent Parts tab, as well as in the downstream view.
2. Right-click on the part that is to be updated and select Update to Current Upstream Equivalent Object.
The Update Equivalence dialog box opens with the Carry over from upstream check box already selected. When selected, only raw material links are carried over from upstream to the downstream structure. To carry over document associations, part alternate links, and part substitute links, use the discrepancy search actions, such as Reconciliation Assistance, Detect Discrepancies, Review and Resolve Discrepancies, and Synchronize Structures. For more information, see Propagating Upstream Changes.
3. Click OK. The parts are updated and made available on the downstream Equivalent tab.
*
A warning is displayed if the part is checked out by another user. In this scenario, the update cannot be performed.
4. If there are discrepancies, the related discrepancies are highlighted in the upstream and downstream tree structures, and the Update to Current Equivalent Objects dialog box opens. The dialog box displays the discrepancies for the highlighted parts. Review the discrepant parts listed in the table and resolve the discrepancies, as needed by selecting the checkbox in front of the discrepancies.
*
The Update to Current Equivalent Objects dialog box opens only if the com.ptc.windchill.associativity.doSilentUpdateEquivalent property is set to false.
To know more about the Update to Current Equivalent Objects dialog box, see About Update to Current Equivalent Objects Dialog Box.
5. Click Resolve and Update to resolve discrepancies.
Key Points
As a best practice, you should resolve all the discrepancies with status as Auto and Interactive, that appear in the Update to Current Equivalent Objects dialog box.
The Resolve and Update action updates a part to its most recent iteration even if you choose to not resolve the discrepancies in the Update to Current Equivalent Objects dialog box.
A part in upstream can have multiple equivalent parts in downstream. The Update to Current Upstream Equivalent Object action updates the equivalent links only for the selected part. Also, the discrepancies are resolved only for the selected part.
If there are no discrepancies or the discrepancies are resolved, the Update to Current Equivalent Objects dialog box does not open.
The Carry over from upstream check box in the Update Equivalence dialog box appears only if the value of the Ask To Carry Over During Create or Update preference is set to Yes.
The Update to Current Equivalent Objects dialog box opens only if the com.ptc.windchill.associativity.doSilentUpdateEquivalent property is set to false. This property is present in the associativity.properties.xconf file located at WT_HOME/codebase/com/ptc/core/foundation/associativity. When set to false, the system opens the Update to Current Equivalent Objects dialog box. You can then choose the discrepancies that you want to resolve. Once this process is over, the system updates the equivalent links.
