Revise (SOLIDWORKS)
When you revise a drawing, you are able to collect both the model and the Windchill part related to this drawing using the common collector. If you revise the drawing, model, and part together, the new revisions are linked as were the original objects.
When you revise just the drawing and not its model or part, the new version of the drawing will be compatible with the existing version of the model and its actively associated part. The old version of the drawing will also continue to be compatible with both the drawing model and its owner-associated part.
Revising the drawing’s model alone (without the drawing or the associated Windchill part) will make the new version of the CAD part “unlinked” with both the existing version of the drawing and part. A checkin of the drawing (either at a new revision or at same revision but new iteration) creates a new as-stored baseline and will establish a compatible version of the drawing for this drawing model. You will need to associate the new version of the drawing’s model to a part version in order to re-establish the compatibility of the part and the drawing.
Revising the drawing’s model and its owner-associated part together without the drawing is similar to the case just discussed. The new drawing model (and also part) version is no longer compatible to the existing version of the drawing. A checkin can re-establish the relationship. When you revise the part and drawing model together, they maintain an owner association between the newly created versions. Therefore, after the next checkin of the drawing with the new model version, the new part version will be able to find a compatible drawing.
Revising the Windchill part alone maintains an owner association to the existing version of the drawing model; therefore it also maintains compatibility with the drawing.
Revising the drawing and the drawing’s model together creates a new as-stored configuration and thus ensures that the new versions of the drawing and the model will be compatible. The original versions of the drawing and drawing model will continue to be compatible with each other. If you have an owner association between the model and part the new part version will be able to find a compatible drawing.
