Insert Classification Nodes
To create a classification node, you can insert a node into the Classification Tree.
1. Select an existing node in the Classification Tree. This node will be the parent of the new classification node.
The selection you make is important because attributes are inherited from the parent node.
*
PTC recommends creating only one child node of the Root node.
2. Click the insert node icon .
3. From the New Node window, complete the following fields:
Internal Name
Enter the internal name of the node. The internal name must be unique in the structure.
Internal names can only contain letters, numbers, periods, hyphens, and underscores. Spaces and other characters are not supported.
Display Name
The name of the node as displayed in the user interface.
Description
A description of the node.
Instantiable
Indicates whether a user can select the node when creating a classified object.
Yes—The node can be selected when classifying an object.
No—The node cannot be selected when classifying an object.
Sort Order
Indicates the ability to sort all sibling nodes under a parent. The sorting is only reflected when classifying an object, not in the Manage Classifications utility.
Keywords
Node keywords for classification searches.
Schematic
If available, upload a file containing schematics for the node class.
Image
Upload an image file to associate with the node. This image appears in the Classification Explorer.
Image should be GIFs or JPGs with a 1:1 aspect ratio, and a recommended size of 75 X 75 pixels.
*
A checkbox appears next to inherited values. If you enter a new value in the field, the checkmark is removed.
If you select an empty checkbox, the value replaced with the default inherited value.
4. Click OK to save the node and return to the classification structure.
