Manual Synchronization
Use the Update Project, Update, and Update Selected Shares actions to update out-of-sync objects in a project.
*
The out-of-sync status indicator appears next to outdated objects in the Project Status table.
However, the out-of-sync and sync exception status indicators are also visible in the Folder Contents table when you enable the Identify out-of-sync shared objects attribute.
For information on the rules that apply when using these actions, see Synchronizing Shared Objects.
Update Project
Use the Update Project action to update all out-of-sync objects at once.
1. From the project Folder Contents table, select Actions > Update Project.
2. The Update Project window opens, listing out-of-sync objects and providing basic information about each. The Project Version column identifies the version of the object currently shared; the Updated Version column identifies the version that is shared once the object is updated.
3. Select any objects you do not want updated and click the exclude icon . A strikethrough line appears through excluded objects.
4. If you are adding a new shared object (for example, if a shared object has a new dependency), you are prompted to specify its project location. The default folder location for a newly added object is the context in which its parent resides. If the object has more than one parent, the default location is the root folder of the project.
Click the set location icon to specify a different location.
5. Click OK to complete the update process.
Update Selected Shares
Use the Update or Update Selected Shares action to update one or more objects at a time.
In some cases, you might want to update to the latest object iteration even if the object is not out of sync with the sharing filter. For example, you cannot complete a Convert to PDM Checkout action on an object unless it is the latest iteration. You can use the individual update actions to accomplish this.
1. Perform one of the following actions:
To update an individual object, select Update from the right-click actions menu. This action is available from the project Folder Contents table and from the Project Status table.
To update one or more objects, navigate to the project Folder Contents table. Select the checkboxes next to the objects you want to update and then select Actions > Update Selected Shares. Use this action to update multiple objects without updating all shared objects.
*
This action is only available when the Identify out-of-sync shared objects attribute is enabled for the project.
2. The Update Selected Shares window opens, listing out-of-sync objects and providing basic information about each. The Project Version column identifies the version of the object currently shared; the Updated Version column identifies the version that is shared once the object is updated.
3. If you cannot update an out-of-sync object to its latest iteration due to the sharing filter, click the edit filter icon . Edit the filter to include the Latest configuration specification. For more information, see Editing a Structure Filter.
4. Select any objects you do not want updated and click the exclude icon . A strikethrough line appears through excluded objects.
5. If you are adding a new shared object (for example, if a shared object has a new dependency), you are prompted to specify its project location. The default folder location for a newly added object is the context in which its parent resides. If the object has more than one parent, the default location is the root folder of the project.
Click the set location icon to specify a different location.
6. Click OK to complete the update process.
