Life Cycle Mapping
The Life Cycle tab, which is available on the Define Mapping window, allows you to define translations of an object’s life cycle template and state from the source system to corresponding values on your Windchill system. You can define the life cycle template and state mapping for each source system with which your Windchill system interacts. For more information, see and Context Mapping.
Field
Description
Source Type
Lists the internal name of the object type for which you are creating the mapping. This value must match a type’s internal name in both the source and target system. If a type from the source system does not exist in your system, you can create the type or you can specify a common parent type. The internal name of an object type is available from the Type and Attribute Management utility.
Source Template
Lists the source life cycle template name for the object type. This value must match the source system life cycle template name exactly.
*
You can copy the source life cycle template name from the Preview Received Delivery Import window.
Source State
The source life cycle state for the object type. This value must match the source system life cycle state name exactly.
*
You can copy the source life cycle state name from the Preview Received Delivery Import window.
Mapped Template
The life cycle template applied to objects of the specified type imported from the source system.
When a valid source type is entered, possible life cycle templates are populated in the drop-down list. Select a life cycle template from the list of available templates to apply to all objects of the source type in that source life cycle state.
*
By mapping to a basic life cycle template you can avoid initiating any automatic workflow processes associated with an advanced template. For more information, see .
Mapped State
The life cycle state applied to objects of the specified type imported from the source system.
When a life cycle template is selected, possible state values are populated in the drop down list. Select a life cycle state from the list of available states to apply to all objects of the source type in that source life cycle state.
*
You can specify multiple states for the same object by adding additional lines to the table. For example, if you add the WTDocument type to the table and specify the Default template as the Mapped Template and the In Work state as the Mapped State for a Source Template of Production and a Source State of In Process, you can specify another Mapped State of Released for the Source State of Post-Production.
Context
The context in which the values for this row were set.
Locked
Indicates whether the values can be modified in lower contexts. For example, if a row is locked in the site context, it cannot be changed in an organization. The value could be modified at the site context level.
