Special Characters
The following table identifies the characters that are allowed for specific attributes in Windchill.

• *When naming a project or a program, the Validate Project/Program name preference determines whether you can use the following characters: / \ : * ? < > | “ ,
• **For folder names the forward slash (/) is always restricted. Other characters are restricted because they produce errors when working with Windchill Desktop Integration and Windows Explorer.
• *** For SOLIDWORKS configuration file names, the supported special characters in the configuration filenames are <>:"|*?. To include the special character ‘@’ in the configuration file name, set the preference the server-side preference, Workgroup Manager Client > Family Table Instance Creation > Include generic name with instance to Yes.
Best Practices
• Include only one ‘@’ character in the configuration file name for Save As and Rename.
• Do not use the ‘@’ character at the beginning of the configuration file name.
• To avoid any errors, the configuration file names must include the generic name. The configuration file name must be in this format – ConfigurationName@GenericName.
