Service Information Management: Improvements to Translated Text Attributes
Product: Windchill
Release: 12.1.2.0
Benefit
A translated text attribute is an attribute available to view, display, and publish the translated text based on the user’s Windchill Language Configuration or publishing settings. This release introduces several improvements related to this capability, ensuring a single source for translations and providing improved visibility to the translated text.
Single Source of Translated Text Attributes
The ability to define translations on modeled string attributes is now limited to the following:
• Part — Name on the Part Master where the Part version translation is based on the Part Master.
• Parts List — Name, Description, and Information Type on the Parts List.
• Parts List Item — Remarks and Item Quantity on the Parts List Item.
String soft attributes continue to be available for translation on Part Master, Part, Parts List, Parts List Item, and subtypes of these types.
Localizable attributes, such as Default Unit attribute on Part, remain localizable and may not be translated. If any localizable attribute is required for use in Windchill Service Information Manager or Windchill Service Parts for publication purposes, translations should be managed using the rbinfo method. These forms of translation values may then be included in XML bundles using a CustomTranslationHook.
Improved Visibility to Translations
The Rename History table now includes visibility to the Authoring Language and current Translation Name available when a historical event includes a modification to the name. Additionally, Windchill Service Information Manager customers can view translations as they became available for the current and historical names in the newly introduced Available Translations table. The following information is included in this table:
• Name
• Name Available
• Translation Name
• Translation Language
• Translation Available
The Available Translations table is only available in Windchill Service Information Manager for Part and Parts Lists.
