Connecting to a Windchill Server
Server registration enables connection and interaction with a Windchill server from the CAD tool.
Registering a Windchill server enables you to work in a managed design environment. Instead of a local working directory, you manage your designs in a project-related workspace (essentially a private folder on the Windchill server).
In a connected session, your work can be saved and uploaded to a secure server location. For more information, see
Saving and Uploading Objects. When you are ready to share your work, you check it in to the
Windchill commonspace.
What is involved?
You can also use different methods to register to register a Windchill server. One method is to activate it from the HTML UI, and get started quickly. This method works only with Creo Parametric or when using the WWGM embedded browser.
1. Launch Creo Parametric. There is no workspace or commonspace visible under the Common Folder.
2. Copy the URL for the Windchill server into the Creo Parametric’s embedded browser. Enter your authentication details. You will be taken to the Windchill home page.
3. To add the Workspace component to the page, click Customize menu , and select Workspaces.
4. If you have created workspaces previously , they will be listed here. To create a new one, click New Workspace. Enter a suitable name for the workspace, and make sure to select the correct Context. Ensure that the option Activate Workspace is selected. A dialog box prompts you for confirmation to add the server.
5. Click Yes to confirm adding the server to your server list. Once confirmed, the server will be registered and activated.

Another method is to use the Server Management utility to register a PDM server:
• Click > to access the Server Management window.
• Enter a Name and valid URL for the server.
• Select a Workspace.
• Set the workspace to be your active workspace and make the server your primary server.
• Your server and workspace then appear in the Folder Navigator.
