Upload and Check In Documents Outside of Windchill (CATIA V5)
Typically, you can do upload and check in by using Import to Workspace. You can also follow these steps to upload and check in files directly from CATIA V5:
1. In CATIA V5, open a CAD document from your local directory.
2. Click PTC Windchill > Save to Workspace.
3. In the Windchill Workgroup Manager client, navigate to the workspace. In your active workspace, the following icons appear next to your documents:
indicates that the document is to be uploaded.
indicates that the document is modified locally.
indicates that the document is new locally.
4. Select the documents to be iterated to the Windchill server and click .
If the upload fails with a CAD Part – <file name>.CATPart is not unique message in the Event Management utility, but you want to upload the updated version of existing document, perform the following steps:
1. In the commonspace, select the documents to be iterated with their updated version and click Actions > Check out to the workspace. The Check Out and Add to Workspace window opens.
2. In the Check Out and Add to Workspace window, select the Reuse modified workspace content checkbox on the Basic tab and click OK.
*
In your active workspace, the two icons appear next to the documents, —modifications uploaded and —checked out by you. The new locally icon disappears because the documents being uploaded on your local workspace have the same name as the documents on the server, indicating they are updated versions of the existing documents.
3. In the workspace, select the documents that are marked with and , and click to upload them to Windchill.
4. In the workspace, select the documents again and click to check in the documents.
5. Click Finish to complete the check in process.
The documents are now uploaded with their updated versions to the Windchill workspace.
*
If you want to save a new file in the workspace and a file with the same name already exists, the Save action fails with an Upload failed message. To prevent a data loss, do one of the following:
Change the save_to_ws.upload preference to No in the wgmclient.ini file.
In the Save to Workspace window, click Tools and clear the Upload box.
This setting lets you save the file locally and rename it to resolve the conflicts. After renaming, you can then upload and check in the file to Windchill. For more information about rename, see Rename (CATIA V5).
