Setting General Workspace Options
Access the Edit Workspace Options for workspace <workspace name> page by selecting Edit Preferences from the workspace actions menu or by clicking the edit preferences icon for the workspace in the My Workspaces table. See Managing Workspaces.
*
The available fields and values are those administered through the object initialization rule of the workspace context. By default, all the field values are taken from the rule as defined in the Object Initialization Rules Administrator for the context. If these default values need to be changed, the best practice is to change them using the Object Initialization Rules Administrator. Doing so ensures that changes are applicable to all the workspaces of all the users in that context. However, if you want, you can override some of these values specifically for this workspace.
To set general workspace options:
1. Click the General tab.
2. In the Description field, enter a workspace description.
3. In the Context field, select a context for your workspace. If you select a new context from the Context pull-down, the system retrieves the rule-based property values for the new context. The page is then refreshed with these potential values.
4. (Windchill PDMLink or Windchill ProjectLink only) In the Part Target Folder field, click Browse to browse to the path for the folder in which you want newly created parts to be located. The default value is the root folder of the context associated with the workspace.
*
Clicking Browse presents the Set Location page to select a cabinet location on the server. You have the opportunity on this page to create a new folder.
5. In the CAD Document Target Folder text box (Windchill PDMLink, Windchill ProjectLink only), click Browse to browse to the path for the folder in which you want newly created documents to be located. The default value is the root folder of the context associated with the workspace.
*
Clicking Browse presents the Set Location page to select a cabinet location on the server. You have the opportunity on this page to create a new folder.
*
If an explicit folder is set in preferences, then the default value displayed shows that value.
Otherwise, if an OIR (Object Initialization Rule) for the CAD or dynamic document type exists that has a folder set, then the default value shows that.
Otherwise it shows the default cabinet under the product associated with the workspace– this is shown as </product name>.
In workspace preferences, the system can only show the OIR value for one type, as it cannot predict which types will be created in the workspace. For that reason, it displays the values for the default CAD or dynamic document type.
6. (Windchill PDMLink or Windchill ProjectLink only) In the View for Parts menu, select the view for all the parts in this workspace. The default part view is configured as a preference and its value is shown in the Use Default: <default part view> button. Click this button to select default part view.
7. Click OK to save your settings and return to your active workspace.
or
Click Cancel to leave the page without saving your changes.
