VCS Architecture
Using VCS eliminates the need to invest in infrastructure (configurations and maintenance) costs involved in using the publishing process locally. For example, to utilize publishing process without VCS, you need to configure a server, install a CAD tool such as Creo, install Creo View Adapters and configure a worker, locally host the hardware, maintain the server, and invest in upgrading it periodically. Using VCS saves the efforts involved in building and managing the infrastructure.
Since VCS is a multi-client service, it allows multiple Windchill clients to be connected simultaneously. Also, PTC ensures the latest versions of the CAD tool and worker are available for publishing. The only requirement when using VCS is that the users must have a Microsoft Azure storage account or Amazon Web Services (AWS) S3 Bucket to upload the portable workspace (PWS) and other supporting files. The viewables generated by VCS are also uploaded to the configured storage account.
