Managing the BOM from CAD Document or Windchill Product Structures
By creating Windchill parts and associating them to the CAD documents that contain the CAD model files as primary content, you can create a Windchill product structure. A product structure is a hierarchy of enterprise parts in the PDM system that comprise an end item. The product structure mirrors the CAD model tree structure for the assembly. The product structure in Windchill PDMLink is available on the Structure tab of the information page of a CAD document or part with subcomponents.
A BOM (Bill of Materials) is a listing of the quantity and type of subcomponents that make up an assembly. You can generate a BOM by first selecting an assembly object in the structure pane (left side) of the Structure tab, and then selecting a BOM report option from the Reports menu located on the toolbar. You can inspect, print, or save the BOM report to disk. In this form, the BOM serves principally as a convenient way to view a content summary of the assembly.
