Search Operators
Different search criteria are joined in order to interpret and verify the search result:
*
By default, strings you enter in the Keyword field are joined by AND.
To use an OR operator instead:
If you are using Windchill Index Search, you must enable advanced mode searching. When enabled, keyword strings are joined by the OR operator by default. For more information, see Advanced Mode Searching.
If you are not using Windchill Index Search, you can use a semicolon (;) to signify OR. For example, 00*18; shaft* searches for 00*18 OR shaft*.
AND
The search results must match all of the criteria.
The conditions specified in every criteria group must be included. For example, you enter Glass* as a keyword, select Type > Part, and Context > All Products. The search results should include any part that has the text string “glass” and which is also located in a product folder. However, if there is a part named “Glass Shield” located in a library or a project, that part is ignored. Similarly, if a product includes a document named “Safety Glass,” that document is ignored.
OR
The search results can match any of the criteria.
Selections within a criteria group cannot require each other. For example, you cannot search for an object that is both a document AND a part.
Use the AND and OR selections under Criteria to determine how attribute criteria is joined. For more information, see Criteria.
For information on the operators used in a related object search, see Related Object Search Operators.
