Setting Effectivity
To set effectivity, you must have modify access privilege on the object.
The Set Effectivity action can occur either as a row action for one object or as a table toolbar action for one or more objects. Launch points include the following:
Change notice Implementation Plan table
Affected Objects table of a variance
Resulting Objects table of a change task
Information page of those objects that can be effectivity managed—only by users that have administrative capabilities

If you select a mixture of objects in a multi-select action, and some of the objects are not managed by effectivity, a warning message appears and the action is applied to only those objects that can be processed.
To update effectivity of multiple objects, select objects with the same effectivity type.
The following icons and fields appear on the Set Effectivity table.

Description
Copy and add effectivity
Adds rows for effectivity. The new rows duplicate the selected object.
Create Effectivity
Creates a new effectivity for each resulting object type.
This action is also available from the following locations:
Resulting Objects table of New Change Task and Edit Change Task windows — The action creates a new effectivity for each of the resulting objects based on your selection in the Resulting Objects table.
Implementation Plan of Change Notice information page, edit wizard and create wizard of Change Notice
Affected Objects table of New Variance and Edit Variance windows — The action creates a new effectivity for each of the affected objects based on your selection in the Affected Objects table.
Remove
Removes the selected rows. You cannot remove all the rows for a given object.
Set or update effectivity attributes
Specifies the effectivity or updates the effectivity previously set on the object selected. For more information, see Setting Effectivity Attributes.
Set effectivity context
Opens a window to search for a suitable context for the object selected.

You can update effectivity context of multiple affected object types. The trace code of the new effectivity context should be valid for the selected effectivity types.
Field
Description
Number
The primary identifier of the object.
Version
The version label of the object.
Name
The name of the object.
(actions)
Actions available for the row. Includes the modify effectivity, view effectivity by version icon and the specify effectivity propagation icon .
Effectivity Context
The context for the effectivity range.
Effectivity Type
The type of the effectivity, based on the trace code of the context, including Serial, MSN, Block, Lot, and Date.

The effectivity type for Windchill documents must be Date.
Effectivity Qualifier
The qualifier of the effectivity type being used, including blank, Exact, and No later than. The default is blank.

Your site may add additional options.
Effectivity Range
The range of dates, serial numbers, or lot numbers.
Propagation
The display of this field is controlled by a preference. If structure propagation has been enabled, the default is No. You can edit the field to be Yes.
