Checking In Objects to Windchill
Use the Check In action to store a new iteration of an object in Windchill. Check In removes the lock on a checked-out object and makes it available for Check Out by other users.

Check In, of a selected part, requires the structure contain no new child parts and all child parts must have been checked in to the Commonspace at least once.

To check in an object:
1. In your workspace, select the objects that you want to check in and select > . You can also click the check-in icon
in the toolbar, or select the object's row-level check-in icon
in the
Actions column.
You can also initiate a checkin from other places in Windchill (for example, from an object's information page or a folders page) by selecting Check In from an Actions menu.
The Check In page appears at its first step, Collect Objects, displaying your initially selected object and any dependents collected by default in a table listing.
2. You can collect additional, related objects to check in at the same time, for example, an object’s drawing. For more information, see
Collecting in Advanced Mode.
| Some provided table views show all your modified objects, even though some objects are not eligible to be checked in. For example, they are objects that are not checked out. For more information on basic table use, sorting, using and customizing views, and finding strings in the table listing, see Using Tables and Customizing Table Views. |
3. You can check out any collected objects not currently checked-out by selecting them and clicking the checkout now icon
or by selecting > . This action checks the object out without presenting the
Check Out user interface.
4. Selecting > or clicking the set location icon
presents the
Set Location window to allow you to specify the context and storage location for selected new objects. For information, see
Setting a Location.
5. To toggle the intent to have a particular object checked in, select the object and then select > . A check-in symbol appears in the Check In Status column when the object is set for checkin.
6. To toggle the intent to keep an object checked out after the checkin, select the object and then select > . A symbol appears in the Keep Checked Out Status column when the object is set to be checked out immediately after the checkin.
7. Optionally, for CAD documents only, you can select one of the following build options to update associated Windchill part structures after the objects are checked in.

Set for Single-Level Build indicates a build of attributes or structure for the selected part. In the case of a part assembly, when you have owner association, the build adds the immediate children to the structure, but does not update their attributes or structure.
Set for Multilevel Build indicates a build for the selected part and immediate children, at all levels in the structure.
Once selected, the appropriate single-level or multilevel build icon is displayed in the Build Status column of the Check In window to indicate that the selected Windchill part structure is set to be build following the check in.
| • The default for the Build Status column is controlled by the server-side preference > > . A description of the settings for this preference and the impact on the Check In user interface are listed in the following table. • Windchill parts being checked in never have a build status icon displayed as build updates are currently CAD-driven only. In other words, reverse build updates are not supported. |
8. Optionally, to remove your specifications for object collection and handling, and return the table to its original state, click the reset icon
(in advanced mode only).
9. Enter an optional comment regarding this checkin in the Comments field. Comments entered at checkin are shown on an object's information page, as part of Iteration History. The comments are shown for every object that has been checked in at the same time.
10. Click Finish to commit the checkin without setting any further options. Alternatively, click Next to go on to the next step, Set Options.
11. On the step Set Options of the Check In page, you can set any of the following options (you can set default preferences for these options in the Preference Management utility):
◦ Selecting
Create Baseline by default creates a baseline with a default name and location. You can edit the name and location path, or click the set location
icon to navigate to a new storage location for the baseline.
◦ Selecting Auto Associate Parts to CAD Documents automatically creates (as necessary) owner-associated parts for the CAD documents not already associated to parts.
◦ Selecting New Promotion Request After Check In starts a new promotion request with all objects that are checked in as the initially selected objects for the promotion.
| • The availability of this option is role-based. For example, if your role is Guest, this option does not appear on the page. • The new promotion request starts after a successful checkin of all selected objects. • If the checkin fails for any of the selected objects, the new promotion request is not launched. |
◦ Selecting Undo Checkout Unmodified Objects allows you to undo check out for unmodified dependents of the objects selected for check in.
◦ Selecting Remove from Workspace allows you to clear the checked-in objects from your workspace upon completion of the checkin.
◦ If the objects selected for check in or objects added to the list based on dependencies include incomplete objects, an Auto resolve incomplete objects check box is also available. When selected, you are allowed to select how the auto-resolve functionality handles incomplete objects in one of two ways, as follows:
▪ In the default method, Update with object on server, then ignore, the system searches for an object on the server with the same file name. If one is found, the incomplete object is updated by the found file, is no longer incomplete, and is therefore available for check in.
If no object is found to update the incomplete object, the system ignores the incomplete object (which is removed from the check-in list).
▪ The system can be set to Always ignore an incomplete object.
| Site administrative settings do not allow the ignore option. Required dependents cannot be ignored. |
◦ Optionally, select the Attach Differences Report check box to generate a report that compares the checked-in object to its predecessor iteration and attach the report to the checked-in object. This option is only available from an active workspace (Creo Parametric embedded browser only).
12. Click Finish.
The checkin is committed as you have specified.
