Troubleshooting Descriptive Analytics
In the troubleshooting commands described below, the default installation directory is assumed to be the following:
C:\Program Files (x86)\ThingWorxAnalytics\DescriptiveAnalytics
If your installation directory is different, adjust the commands accordingly.
To Restart, Start, or Stop the Microservice from the Start Menu
1. From the Windows Start menu, navigate to Descriptive Analytics. Several shortcuts are displayed, including the following:
Restart – stops a running microservice and restarts it
Start – starts a microservice that is not running
Stop – stops a running microservice
2. Right click the desired shortcut option and select Run As Administrator to restart, start, or stop the microservice.
To Start or Restart the Microservice from the Local Services List
1. Navigate to the local services on your computer. The path to these services will vary based on your version of Windows. (Example: Administrative Tools > Services)
2. In the list of services, locate the descriptive-analytics-service and select it. Several options are displayed on the left, including the following:
Start – starts a microservice that is not running
Restart – stops a running microservice and restarts it
3. Click an option to start or restart the microservice.
To Check the Status of the Microservice
1. Navigate to the local services on your computer. The path to these services will vary based on your version of Windows. (Example: Administrative Tools > Services)
2. In the list of services, locate the desired descriptive-analytics-service and check the value of the Status column.
To Update the ThingWorx AppKey
1. Log into ThingWorx Composer, as an Administrator, and create a new AppKey. For more information, see the Application Keys section of the ThingWorx Platform Help Center.

The Application Key you provide to ThingWorx Analytics must be a key created by a user with Administrator privileges.
2. On Windows computer where your Descriptive Analytics microservice is installed, open Windows Explorer and navigate to the descriptive-analytics-config folder of your installation directory.
For example: C:\Program Files (x86)\ThingWorxAnalytics\DescriptiveAnalytics\descriptive-analytics-config\
3. Open the descriptive-analytics-microservice.properties file and update the thingworx.application.key property with the new AppKey. Then save the file.
4. On the Windows Start menu, navigate to Descriptive Analytics and right click on the Restart shortcut option.
5. Select the Run as Administrator option to restart the microservice.
It might take several seconds for the Things in ThingWorx Platform to refresh and reconnect.
To Check Component Logs
Logs for the microservice are available at the following path:
C:\Program Files (x86)\ThingWorxAnalytics\DescriptiveAnalytics\logs
