Upgrade from an Earlier Version
The ThingWorx Analytics installation includes an upgrade path from certain earlier versions of ThingWorx Analytics Server. When the current installer runs, it checks for any previous installation of the server, from release 8.1.x to the current release. If an earlier release is detected, you will be prompted to upgrade. If the installer detects the current release already installed, you will be prompted to reinstall. Reinstallation can be useful to repair or modify your existing server installation.
*
When you upgrade an earlier version of ThingWorx Analytics Server, the new version is installed in the old installation directory. The old directory will be preselected during installation and you will not be able to change it. However, if you also chose to install Descriptive Analytics at the same time, the result will be two separate installation directories:
ThingWorxAnalyticsServer, which contains the upgraded ThingWorx Analytics Server
ThingWorxAnalytics, which contains the Descriptive Analytics installation
The upgrade process migrates all the data related to existing jobs and results. Log files are preserved. When the upgrade is complete, the installer will continue its deployment process. If the upgrade fails, the installer will roll back all changes.
*
When an upgrade completes successfully, it cannot be rolled back to the previous version. So, be sure that you want to keep the upgrade before you opt to run it.
*
As an extra precaution, back up the data folder of your existing installation before you run the upgrade.
Note that an upgrade to the ThingWorx Analytics Server will likely require an upgrade to your ThingWorx server as well. The ThingWorx server must be upgraded before you run the ThingWorx Analytics installer.
