Discovering Devices
Discovery for devices connected to a KEPServerEX server happens daily at midnight. You can also discover devices on demand by selecting a connected KEPServerEX server in the Controls Advisor connections list and clicking Discover Devices icon..
During the initial discovery action for a KEPServerEX server, the system scans the server and for each device found it creates a Remote Thing in ThingWorx corresponding to the device. Devices for 3rd party OPC servers must be created manually.
Subsequent discovery actions scan the list of devices on the KEPServerEX server and compare it to the list of devices already discovered.
If a device with the same name is already in the list, it is kept.
If a device is not in the list but is on the server, it is added.
If a device is in the list, but is not on the server, it is deleted.
When a device is deleted, the corresponding Remote Thing is deleted from ThingWorx along with all data associated to the Thing properties. Bindings are removed and tags are unsubscribed. After discovery is complete, a warning indicator is displayed in the Devices column of the connections list indicating that a change occurred (some devices were added or removed during last discovery).

When a device is renamed in KEPServerEX, it is not automatically renamed in ThingWorx Apps. Upon next discovery, the device is removed and a new device with the new name is added.
When a server is selected in the connections list, the bottom pane of Controls Advisor displays the total number of devices on the KEPServerEX server, and their statuses, along with the number of devices added and removed during the most recent discovery action.
A maximum of 250 devices are supported for each server. When there is a large number of devices, discovering devices for a specific server may take several minutes.
