Importing and Exporting Equipment
The Import and Export Equipment action allows you to create and update equipment in bulk by importing the information from a spreadsheet, rather than creating and configuring the equipment individually. You can also export the equipment information from the system to a spreadsheet, modify the exported spreadsheet, then import the spreadsheet to bulk update the equipment information.
Click Import and Export Equipment icon on the Equipment tab to open the Import and Export Equipment window. The Import and Export Equipment action is always enabled for Administrators and Controls Engineers. For Maintenance Managers, the action is enabled only if they have read (Read) or write (Write) permission on at least one context.

Equipment is not deleted by the import process. To delete equipment, use the delete action (Delete icon) on the Equipment page.
A template spreadsheet is provided with ThingWorx Apps for your use in importing equipment data. To access the spreadsheet, click the link at the bottom of the Import tab.
The spreadsheet contains four tabs, three tabs of the data for import, and a reference tab. Comments on the data tabs provide details about the values for each column.
General Information—Defines the general information for the equipment being imported, including the name, equipment type, context, and so on. Equipment must be defined on this tab for any properties defined for the equipment on the Properties tab to be created or updated, or for equipment relationships defined on the Equipment Structure tab to be created or updated.
Equipment Structure—Defines the relationships between pieces of equipment as they will appear on the Equipment tab of Configuration and Setup.
Properties—Defines properties for the equipment, including any property binding, the property base type, and so on.
Additional Info—Identifies what equipment information from the other tabs is created or updated through the import process, and what information is exported for equipment. Information on the supported property base types for import and export is also provided.

The Export Configuration and Data and Import Configuration and Data actions available from the toolbar menu ( toolbar menu icon ) are not the same as the Import and Export Equipment action. These actions are used for migrating entities and configuration information between systems at the same release level, for example, from a 9.0 test system to an 9.0 production system. The Import Configuration and Data action supports only ZIP files previously exported using the Export Configuration and Data.
