Configuration Types
ServiceMax configuration is of two types:
• Basic configuration
• Advanced configuration
As ServiceMax is built on the Salesforce platform, it utilizes the configuration options provided by the Force.com platform for consistency and ease of administration. This constitutes the
basic ServiceMax configuration. This includes adjusting configuration entities such as profiles, page layouts, objects and fields, picklist values, sharing settings, translations, and so on.

ServiceMax has a robust configuration layer that sits on top of the Salesforce platform. This constitutes the
advanced ServiceMax configuration. This includes multiple configuration options grouped by key functionalities or set of features such as AppAdministration, Service Organization, InstalledBase and Preventive Maintenance, Dispatch Management, Service Flow Manager, Warranties, Contracts, Billing, and so on. For most of these configuration options, defaults are loaded by the ServiceMax Configurator after ServiceMax package is installed. These determine the out-of-the-box functionality of ServiceMax features, and are referred to as
seed data.
Advanced configuration involves adjusting settings and configuring other entities to influence the behavior of the ServiceMax application for your end users. To launch the advanced configuration of ServiceMax, click the Home tab, and then click ServiceMax Setup. The following page is displayed. Using this screen, you can configure ServiceMax functionality for your end users.
