Rule (operational) (UPDM - DoDAF aliases)
Creation
To create a Rule (Operational):
• From an Architectural Description, Logical Data Model or Service Description: right-click the element, point to New, point to DoDAF, point to Operational, and then click Rule (Operational).
• From an Entity Item, Exchange Element, Mission, Mission Use Case, Performer (Operational), Activity (Operational), Security Domain or Standard Activity (Operational): right-click the element, point to New, point to DoDAF, and then click Rule (Operational).
• From an OV-1d Mission Definition, OV-2 Operational Resource Definition, OV-2 Operational Resource Flow Description, OV-5 Operational Activity Decomposition Tree or DIV-2 Information Model: click the Rule (Operational) button, and then click in free space on the diagram.

Applying to elements
When you create a Rule (Operational) it is applied to the owning element, unless the owning element is an Architectural Description, Logical Data Model or Service Description. You can apply a Rule (Operational) to many elements.
To apply a Rule (Operational) to an element:
• From an appropriate diagram: click the

◦ Right-click the Rule (Operational), point to Links, and then click Operationally Constrained Element. On the Links Editor, select the elements to which the Rule (Operational) applies.
◦ Right-click the Entity Item, Exchange Element, Mission, Mission Use Case, Performer (Operational), Activity (Operational) and Security Domain or Standard Activity (Operational), point to Links, point to Applied, and then click Operational Constraint. On the Links Editor, select the Rule (Operational) elements that apply to the element.

When shown on an OV-1d Mission Definition, OV-2 Operational Resource Definition, OV-2 Operational Resource Flow Description, OV-5 Operational Activity Model, OV-5 Operational Activity Decomposition Tree, or DIV-2 Information Model, a Rule (Operational) appears as follows:
An OV-6a Operational Rules Model is useful for viewing which Rule (Operational) elements are applied to operational elements.
