Creating a trace relationship through a pane (UML Standard profile)
If you are using the SysML traceability relationships, you should not use the more generic trace link.

In the following example, SysML suggests that ValueType1 tracesFrom Requirement1, and Requirement1 tracesTo ValueType1. However, PTC's usability studies have shown that Systems Engineers find this unintuitive, so PTC has decided that for the preceding example, ValueType1 tracesTo Requirement1, and Requirement1 tracesFrom ValueType1. Note that when a Requirement is shown on a diagram, you can show the TracesFrom compartment. |
This topic provides information for specifying requirements and items that trace a requirement or item through an appropriate pane. For information about creating trace relationships through a diagram, see

To specify items that trace an item:
1. Right-click the item, and select > > .
2. For each item that is refined by the item you right-clicked:
a. In the Link Items browser, select the item.
b. Click the Link button.
3. Click OK.
Alternatively,
1. Right-click the item, and then select > .
2. For each item that refines the item you right-clicked:
a. Right-click the item, and then select > .
b. From the Relationship list, select Traces To, and then click OK.
To specify items that are traced from an item:
1. Right-click the item, and select > > .
2. For each item that is refined by the item you right-clicked:
a. In the Link Items browser, select the item.
b. Click the Link button.
3. Click OK.

2. For each item that refines the item you right-clicked:
a. Right-click the item, and then select > .
b. From the Relationship list, select Traces From, and then click OK.
