Resource exchange (UPDM - DoDAF aliases)
Creation
To create a Resource Exchange as a link that does not realize any elements:
From an SV-1 Systems Interface Definition: click the Resource Exchange Link toolbar button, click the source element and then click the destination element.
The source and destination elements can be Performer (System), Organization Type, System Context, Person Role Type, System, Responsibility, Service Access or Software elements.
On the Select Conveyed Classifier dialog, create or select the Resource Exchange element's conveyed classifier.
From an SV-10c Systems Event-Trace Description, click the Resource Exchange Message toolbar button, in line with the required Statement click the source lifeline, and then click the destination lifeline.
To create a Resource Exchange that realizes a System Interface:
From an SV-1 Systems Interaction Specification: click the Resource Exchange toolbar button, and then click the System Interface you want to realize.
On the Select Conveyed Classifier dialog, create or select the Resource Exchange element's conveyed classifier, and from the context menu click the command for the destination element.
To create a Resource Exchange that realizes a System Connector or Service Channel:
From an SV-2 Systems Resource Flow Description: click the Resource Exchange toolbar button, and then click the System Interface or Service Channel you want to realize.
On the Select Conveyed Classifier dialog, create or select the Resource Exchange element's conveyed classifier, and from the context menu click the command for the destination element.
To create a Resource Exchange that realizes a Control Flow (System) or Object Flow (System):
From an SV-4 Systems Functionality Description: click the Resource Exchange toolbar button, and then click the Control Flow (System) or Object Flow (System) you want to realize.
From the dialogs that appear, select the conveyed classifier, the source element, and then the destination element.
The conveyed classifier of a Resource Exchange can be a Performer (System), Energy, Exchange Element, Geo Political Extent Type, Materiel, Organization Type, System Context, Person Role Type, System, Responsibility, Service Access, or Software.
You can convert a Resource Exchange to a Command or Control when the source and destination elements are Organization Type, Person Role Type or Responsibility elements: right-click the Resource Exchange, point to Convert To, and then click the required command.
Realizing Elements
A Resource Exchange can realize many System Connector, System Interface, Control Flow (System), Object Flow (System) and Service Channel elements.
To make a Resource Exchange realize an element:
Drag the Resource Exchange from a Modeler pane to the System Connector, System Interface, Control Flow (System), Object Flow (System) or Service Channel on a diagram.
Drag the Resource Exchange element's conveyed classifier from a Modeler pane to the System Connector, System Interface, Control Flow (System), Object Flow (System) or Service Channel on a diagram. On the Select Resource Exchange dialog, select the realizing Resource Exchange.
Right-click the System Connector, System Interface, Control Flow (System), Object Flow (System) or Service Channel that is to be realized, point to Links, point to Realized, and then click Resource Interaction. From the dialog, select the Resource Exchange elements that you want to realize the element you right-clicked.
If you right-click the element on a diagram, the Resource Exchange elements that you select are added to the diagram.
You can view which elements are realized by a Resource Exchange on the Items tab of its Property Pages. In the Show Associated list, select Realization. Do not attempt to realize elements through the Items tab.
After realizing an element, you can change the source and target elements of the Resource Exchange to those of the realized element, when it is valid to do so: on a diagram that shows the Resource Exchange realizing the element, right-click the Resource Exchange, and then click Set Ends to Realizing Flow Ends.
Appearance
When shown on an SV-1 Systems Interface Definition, a Resource Exchange Link appears as follows:
When shown on an SV-1 Systems Interaction Specification, SV-2 Systems Resource Flow Description or SV-4 Systems Functionality Description, a Resource Exchange realization appears as follows:
An SV-3 Systems - Systems Matrix shows the source and target elements for Resource Exchange relationships in a table, and an SV-6 Systems Resource Flow Matrix shows information about Resource Exchange relationships.
Relationships
There are no relationships that are of significant importance to a Resource Exchange.
