Purpose
On an NSV-8 Systems Evolution Description:
Show Capability elements from the analyzed Packages.
View the elements that are exhibited by those Capability elements, and the components of those exhibiting elements.
View the dates of Increment Milestone and Out Of Service Milestone elements that are associated with those exhibiting elements.
Elements Shown
The NSV-8 Systems Evolution Description shows the following elements:
The owner of NSV-8 Systems Evolution Description determines which Capability elements are shown in the table:
For an Architectural Description or Service Description owned NSV-8 Systems Evolution Description, a row is created for each Capability that is found in the analyzed Packages.
For a Capability owned NSV-8 Systems Evolution Description, a row is created for only the Capability that owns the NSV-8 Systems Evolution Description.
The name of each Capability is shown in the Capability Name column.
For each Capability, its exhibiting elements are shown in the Exhibiting Element Name column.
The following elements can be exhibited by a Capability: Capability Configuration, Enterprise Phase, Logical Architecture, Node, Organization, Physical Architecture, Post, Resource Artifact, Responsibility, Security Domain, Service Access, Software and Whole Life Enterprise elements.
For each exhibiting element, its components are shown in the Exhibiting Element Components column.
If you would prefer to not show these components in the table, on the NSV-8 Systems Evolution Description tab of the NSV-8 Systems Evolution Description product's Property Pages, set the tagged value of the showComponents tag definition to FALSE.
For each exhibiting element, the dates of their Increment Milestone and Out Of Service Milestone elements are shown in the Milestone Dates columns.
Analyzed Packages
For a Capability owned NSV-8 Systems Evolution Description, the Analyzed Packages are ignored and only the owning Capability appears in the table.
For an Architectural Description or Service Description owned NSV-8 Systems Evolution Description, by default the NSV-8 Systems Evolution Description searches for Capability elements that are contained within the Architectural Description or Service Description that owns the NSV-8 Systems Evolution Description.
To search for Capability elements from other Architectural Description and Service Description packages:
Right-click the NSV-8 Systems Evolution Description, point to Links, and then click Analyzed Packages. From the Links Editor, select the Architectural Description and Service Description packages from which you want to search for Capability elements.
Example
In this example:
Architectural Description1 contains NSV-8 Systems Evolution Description1 and Capability1.
Capability1 exhibits Software1.
To create this relationship from a Capability: right-click the Capability, point to Links, point to Capability, and then click Exhibiting Element.
Software1 has two Resource Role elements that use Software2 and Software3 as components.
Software1 uses Increment Milestone1 that has a date of 2015-01-01, and Out Of Service Milestone1 that has a date of 2016-01-01.
To create this relationship from a Software: right-click the Software, point to Links, and then click Milestone.
When generated, NSV-8 Systems Evolution Description1 appears as follows.
From the table you can see the following:
Capability1 was found in the analyzed Packages.
Capability1 exhibits Software1, which has two components named Software2 and Software3.
Software1 uses an Increment Milestone dated 2015-01-01, and an Out Of Service Milestone dated 2016-01-01.
