Publisher terminology (Publisher)
The following terminology is used in Publisher and this Help.
Assignable Item
An item that can be assigned to a Document Structure item.
For Modeler data, an assignable item can be a Model Item Type (diagram or item type), Extended Model Item Type (Stereotype) or Model Item.
In addition, an assignable item can be a Note, External Image, Revision History, Custom Revision History, Distribution List or Custom Table.
Child Role
A child Role is a relationship from a Model Item Type.
Through the Modeler Automation Interface (which determines the child Role names you see in Publisher), a child Role is an association.
Child Type
A child Type is a Model Item Type that is related to a parent Model Item Type through a child Role.
Through the Modeler Automation Interface (which determines the Model Item Type names you see in Publisher), a child Type is a child object.
Custom Style Parameters
Custom Style Parameters allow you to define aspects of the generated output, such as, header and footer text.
The Publisher Style determines which Custom Style Parameters are available. Custom Style Parameters are set on the Document Properties dialog.
DocBook
DocBook is an Output Format that represents the structure and content of the extracted data. DocBook is a semantic markup language for technical documentation, the details of which are not covered in this Help.
Document Definition
Publisher works with Document Definitions. Through Publisher you can create, save and open Document Definitions files (.ds files).
A Document Definition stores the information you set up in Publisher, such as, which model item types are used as inputs for the generated output, the structure and content of the generated output, and the default output format and Publisher style to use.
Document Structure
A Document Structure defines which items and properties are extracted from Modeler and how that information is structured in the generated document or Publisher HTML.
Document Structure Item
A Document Structure Item is an item that appears in the Document Structure.
Document Template
Document Templates provides a way of distributing Document Definitions. Publisher is installed with PTC Document Templates. When you import a Document Template it is added to the New Documents pane in Publisher.
Extended Model Item Type
An Extended Model Item Type is defined through a Stereotype in a model. You can use an Extended Model Item Type as an Assignable Item.
External Image
An External Image is an Assignable Item that can be used to add external images to generated documents and Publisher HTML.
Formatting Parameters
Formatting Parameters allow you to define aspects of a generated document, such as, left and right margins.
The Publisher Style determines which Formatting Parameters are available. Formatting Parameters are set on the Document Properties dialog.
Model Item Type
A Model Item Type is an Assignable Item that is used to extract item and diagram types from a model.
Through the Modeler Automation Interface (which determines the Model Item Type names you see in Publisher), a Model Item Type is an object.
Output Format
The Output Format determines what Publisher generates, typically a Word document or Publisher HTML.
Publisher HTML
Publisher HTML is an Output Format that generates HTML files that allow you to use an internet browser to navigate through the structure of the extracted items, view diagram images and view the properties of items.
Publisher Style
A Publisher Style determines how information is presented in a generated document, including the content of the title page, headers and footers.
You can create your own Publisher Styles and use Publisher Styles from a remote computer.
Publisher XML
Publisher XML is an Output Format that generates XML files for the structure and content of the extracted data so that other tools and applications can make use of that data.
