Protected (property)
For automation interface information about the Protected property, see the automation interface topic for the owning item type in the Related Topics.
This property specifies that the Model or Package is protected. When a Model or Package is protected, the items scoped by that model or Package cannot be edited until the model or Package is unprotected.
The Protected check box works in conjunction with an integrated configuration management tool, and should not be confused with protecting the latest version of a model from Model Explorer. When a Package is under configuration management control, the Protected check box indicates whether the Package is checked out to the model or not.
After a Package is under configuration management control, its status cannot be changed manually.
After setting the Protected check box of the Model or a Package, you can set the Protected check box of all child Packages to the same value through the Copy Protected Flag to Child Packages button, which appears on the Access Permissions tab.
This property is set on the Access Permissions tab of a Model's or Package's Property Pages.
You can use the Protected property as search criteria in the Find Model Items dialog.

Protecting a Package does not prevent its sub-Packages from being edited.
It may appear as though you can change some properties of a protected item, for example, you can type in Body text for a protected Operation; however, any changes you attempt to make will not be saved.
The following section provides information about the items and diagrams for which Protected is a property. For more information about an item or diagram, click it.
