Free Axis (on an Element)
Rotating an Assembly Unit Around a Freely Selected Axis (on an Element)
The previous exercise demonstrated how to create and work with a free axis perpendicular to a surface. The free axis created in the exercise lay outside the coordinate system.
Using this free axis, it is also possible to change the orientation of parts independently of the coordinate axes. The axis is created in the same orientation as the element at the select point. Consequently, in the case of curved elements, the orientation changes even when the select points are tightly spaced.
For example, if this tool is used to create the axis in the rotational axis of a door or a cover and the part is then rotated, the cover or door is opened and parts behind these become visible.
The following exercise demonstrates how to create a free axis (on an element). The entire drawing (assembly unit) is then rotated around this axis.
